Garland of the Earth
Garland of the Earth is a wearable art piece that embodies devotion. Created through a slow, meditative process, the work honours sustainable and intentional making as a form of ritual. Handcrafted from dried and dyed palm leaves, organic Indian cotton, natural dyes made in so-called Australia, and woodblock-printed floral motifs. The piece draws on Sikh spirituality and Indian craftsmanship. Adorning the turban with peacock feathers and pearls, along with juttis made from hand-stitched gum leaves, the work is anchored in ancestral knowledge and ecological sensitivity. The process of making becomes a prayerful act, each detail inviting the body to become a site of ceremony and care. Garland of the Earth was exhibited at the Immigration Museum in Melbourne in 2025 as part of the Wundergym Showcase.
