Garland of the Earth
Garland of the Earth is a wearable art and photography series that intertwines the spirituality of Sikhism with the intricate elegance of Mughal craftsmanship. Through the documentation of a man adorned in this hand-crafted garment, the work also interrogates the role of the woman behind the camera—my role as the artist, caregiver, and storyteller.
In this series, I reclaim agency over the lens, subverting the traditional notion of the muse by positioning myself as the one who decides how likeness is captured. The act of editing with selective color becomes an intentional gesture, reflecting on the aspects of identity and culture we choose to carry forward and those we leave behind. Just as a garland is woven with intention, my work is a meditation on what is preserved, what is shed, and how heritage is reimagined through both material and image.
